Licensed by the City of Calgary
I am the only Calgary Bed and Breakfast that’s have a Lodging House license from the City of Calgary. Since I have more than three guest rooms I have to acquire a “Lodging House License”. This means I am inspected and approved by the various city departments i.e. Fire Department, Calgary Police Service and the Calgary Regional Health Authority. American Automobile Association
I am very proud to be an official listed property with the AAA/CAA organization and being the only Calgary B&B awarded with a 3 Diamonds rating. Calgary Westways has an annual evaluation that conducted by trained AAA/CAA inspector in a consistent, universal high standard. To be an official listed property a bed and breakfast has to have a minimum of 4 guest’s bedrooms, smaller properties are not eligible. “Canada Select” properties may have just one room and that B&B may be rated 4 stars. It is easier for a B&B with one guest room to have a high star rating than a B&B with 4 or more guest bedrooms.

Canada Select
This Canadian rating organization for the hospitality industry is very popular with the B&B industry as there isn’t a minimum number requirement for guest bedrooms. Inspections are conducted once every two years and are provided by a provincial association. Here in Alberta it is the Alberta Hotel and Lodging Association, which has the responsibility to provide evaluations for the Canada Select program.

The primary purpose of the Institute of Hospitality is to promote the highest professional standards of management and education in the international hospitality, leisure and tourism industries.

Calgary Westways Guest House is also a member of the Alberta Hotel and Lodging Association. The AHLA keeps abreast of new development and provide educational seminars in the hospitality industry.

These two associations represent a wide variety of B&Bs here in Alberta and Calgary. This diverse range of B&Bs vary from simple “home stay” accommodations, basement guest bedrooms, to the high end of traditional B&B homes. The associations help to communicate the concerns and needs of the B&B industry to various provincial and municipality government bodies. The associations other main tasks are the marketing of the members B&Bs. Minimum requirements are needed to become a member with an inspection once every two years.
